Why a second edition of the Facile à lire series?

Wouldn’t you say a renewal every so often is good?
Starting again on the right foot ?
Trying a new look ?

We would. 🙂

We have listened to you !

Four years after Christian’s first drawings, we decided on a complete makeover of our first series, on a new logo, and on a revamped website.

The images and learning progression of our books have been revised and improved.

What is changing?
A new logo

The A represents a book balanced on its pages, bringing a touch of irreverence.

More universal look, in order to appeal to all readers with learning difficulties, regardless of their age.

Stunning illustrations and more diversity

All illustrations have been redrawn by Béatrice Maurais, our seasoned illustrator.

All children, regardless of their heritage or their physical/cultural particularities, can see themselves in our books.

More precise progression

We hired Marilie Faucher, MEES orthopedagogue, and author of “The effects of approximate spelling practices on the development of spelling knowledge in students in order to prevent difficulties in learning to read”. She and multiple other teacher and parent contributors have suggested changes to improve the books and bring us more in line with the latest advances in the science of reading.

Here is an overview of the main changes.

  • In order to facilitate reading, we use La nouvelle orthographe which reduces the number of circumflex accents and hyphens (among other things)
  • The hard C sound now comes later in our Introduction 1 series. Our character Luc has become Lulu. Similarly, the second story in Intro 1 has been changed to replace “ lac ” ( hard C ) with lava ( a bit more exciting, too ! ).

  • We have systematized our use of sight words by relying on the lists of words frequently learned in the different cycles of primary school.
  • The order of books in some series ( especially non-fiction ) has been changed to be sorted by grade.
  • Two series have changed reading level :
    • The Syllables series is now at the pre-reading level because the basic learning of syllables is best done in the presence of a parent.
    • The Luna the small moon series is now level 3, due in part to some planet names that are more difficult to read.
A professional translation

All our books contain the translation of French words into English. We have professionally standardized our translations between our different series.

We can’t wait to show you all of this !
Keep an eye on your inbox and our website.
